Elvis Presley makes his feature film debut in this Civil War-era musical drama. The King plays Clint Reno, a Texas man too young to fight in the war. Clint marries his older brother Vance's sweetheart after the family hears reports of his death on the battlefield. When Vance turns out to be alive, his return is fraught with emotional turmoil and complicated further by a missing government payroll stolen by Vance's comrades-in-arms.
