* Tom has 3 sisters: Marian, Lee Anne & Cass.

* During his youth Tom's parents moved house alot. By the time he was 14 he had attended 15 different schools in the US and Canada.

* When Tom's parents seperated  he lived with his mother & her new husband in Glen Ridge, New Jersey, where he attended Packanack School from first through to third grade.

* During his high school years, Tom had plans of becoming a priest but eventually developed an interest in acting. In 1980 at age 18, he graduated from Glen Ridge High School & headed for New York to seek an acting career.

* In 1981 Tom made his film debut with a small part in "Endless Love". Bigger roles followed with "Taps" (1981), "Losin' It" (1983), "The Outsiders" (1983) & starring roles in "Risky Business" (1983) & "All the Right Moves" (1983).

* It wasn't until 1986 that Tom became a full fledged Hollywood superstar after starring in the hugely popular action/romance "Top Gun". In the same year he received critical acclaim for his performance opposite Paul Newman in the pool drama "The Color Of Money".

* More top grossing films followed, "Rain Man" (1988) opposite Dustin Hoffman & "Cocktail" (1988), where he got to play a bottle spinning bartender, opposite Elisabeth Shue & Australian actor Bryan Brown.

* In 1989 Tom received an Academy Award nomination for Best Actor for his portrayal of paralyzed Vietnam vet Ron Kovic in "Born on the Fourth of July".

* In 1990 Tom was chosen as People Magazine's Sexiest Man Alive .
* Also in 1990 Tom became involved with The Church Of Scientology.

* By the mid-90's he was one of the highest paid actors in the world earning an average 15 million dollars a picture in such blockbuster hits as "Interview with the Vampire" (1994), "Mission Impossible" (1996) & "Jerry Maguire" (1996) for which he received an Academy Award Nomination for best actor.

* In 1995 he ranked 41st in Empire magazine's "100 Sexiest Stars in film history".
* In 1996 Tom stopped to help a hit and run victim & paid her hospital bills.  
* In 1997 Tom Ranked 3rd in Empire magazine's "The Top 100 Movie Stars of All Time".
* Also in 1997 he was voted Best Dressed Male Movie Star.
* Tom enjoys skydiving, scuba diving, & piloting his stunt plane.

* In 1990, 1991 & 1997 he was chosen by People magazine as one of the 50 Most Beautiful People in the world.

* In February 2001 Tom filed for divorce from Nicole Kidman & later began dating his 'Vanilla Sky' co-star Penelope Cruz. Tom continues to work hard with two new blockbusters on the way "The Last Samurai" (2003) & "Mission Impossible 3" (2004).
