FILM REVIEW :
In the tradition of "Police Academy comes "Super Troopers" a crazy, wacky comedy, about a group of fun loving Vermont State Troopers stationed near the Canadian border. When the boys find out that budget cuts are coming, their highway patrol post becomes threatened with closure by the governor, played by Lynda Carter (TV's "Wonder Woman"). A complete shutdown looks inevitable unless the "Super Troopers" can prove their worth by solving a drug smuggling operation that has been taking place in the region.

"Super Troopers" gets off to a good start when the highway patrol officers make an outrageous drug bust on some dopey young punks but quickly degenerates into a series of hit and miss skits. One of the film's comedic highlights is the scene in the fast food shop when "Super Trooper" Farva (played hysterically by Kevin Heffernan) tries to order some burgers and a litre of coke whilst being suspicious that the cooks might be spitting on his food.

Some newspaper reports have described "Super Troopers" as; "Raw", "Consistently funny and refreshingly crude", "Twistedly demented good fun", and "Will have you choking on your popcorn with laughter". One thing is for sure the highway patrolmen of "Super Troopers" make the cadets of "Police Academy" look like a bunch of boy scouts. They are lewd, crude and rude and will have some viewers looking away in disgust while others laugh hysterically.

"Super Troopers" was a surprise hit. Made on a budget of $3 million it clocked up over $7 million on its first weekend of release and then went on to bring in over $18 million at the U.S. box office alone. It is interesting to note that the film's cast are members of a comedy troupe known as "Broken Lizard".  "Super Troopers" is one crazy outrageous film and this zany bunch of Vermont troopers and their absurd pranks are sure to develop a cult following in the not too distant future.
