FILM REVIEW :
The success of "Legally Blonde" rests on the shoulders of Reese Witherspoon & the talented blonde carries it off with aplomb."Legally Blonde could have easily been re-titled "Clueless Goes To Law School" & starring Alicia Silverstone, but it wasn't. Reese Witherspoon is a delightfully talented young actress & her portrayal of Elle Woods is easily one of the most standout comedic performances of 2001. Her character could be described as a likeable version of the Tracy Flick role she played in 1999's "Election" with Mathew Broderick.
"Legally Blonde" is not your average teen comedy, it stands head & shoulders above the majority that have been released in 2001. The film was a critical success, featuring excellent performances, a good storyline, a quality script, great character development, fun plot twists & excellent direction by Australian Robert Luketic. Also, the classroom & courtroom scenes are exceptionally well handled with wit & sophistication.
Witherspoon plays popular blonde sorority queen Elle Wood. She has it all, well she thinks she does, until her boyfriend dumps her, & goes off to study at prestigious Harvard University. Elle is left feeling like a dumb blonde. Determined to win him back Elle goes to law school after him, but along the way discovers that he wasn't worth the trouble. She proves to herself & her peers, that she has the makings of an accomplished Legal Eagle. Throughout the film there is also a number of scenes in a beauty parlor in which "UPS Guy" Bruce Thomas appears to deliver parcels. I couldn't help but find his portrayal of the courier, who has an eye for the ladies, absolutely hilarious. Look fast to spot former Hollywood sex symbol Raquel Welch in a small part as Mrs. Windham Vandermark.
The film has become a surprise success; made for only $18 million, it grossed over $95 million in the US alone. It would be nice to see a sequel so we can see Reese in the courtroom again. She certainly makes a good-looking lawyer. "Legally Blonde" is highly recommended, a good date flick, girls will love it & guys will also enjoy it. It is the type of film that will have you leaving the cinema with a smile on your face.
