Animal House (also known as National Lampoon's Animal House) is a non-stop raunchy ride through 1960's college life. This low budget film struck a chord with cinemagoers and went on to gross over $140 million at the US box office alone. The party animals of Delta Fraternity are on the loose & led by Saturday Night Live comedian John Beluishi in his first major screen role. Belushi seems to be having fun in his role as the ultimate slob, the grossly disgusting Bluto.
One of the film's standout scenes is the cafeteria sequence in which John Belushi's character Bluto glides through the scene joyously, roaming the cafeteria as he gulps down loads of food to the delightful tune of Sam Cooke's Wonderful World. The scene ends with Belushi's impersonation of "busting a zit" & the subsequent food-fight that follows. Two other memorable moments, not to be missed, would have to be the famous toga party & Belushi's attempt to perve on the girls whilst on a ladder. Also, look out for future "Footloose" star Kevin Bacon in a small role as Chip Diller.
It should be noted that this extremely tasteless film set off a whole new trend of teen comedy. It features some big laughs despite resorting to vulgar humour. Animal House is directed by John Landis who later made the 1980's cult classic "The Blues Brothers" also starring Belushi.
Bluto is considered by many to be the definitive John Belushi role & Animal House has become a landmark film, considered by some to be the funniest film ever made. If your into Rock "n" Roll, crazy partying, & a generous helping of vulgarity then this film is for you, if not, then please stay away.
