Writer, Producer, Director and Actor
FULL NAME:  John Hughes
DATE OF BIRTH : 18 February 1950
PLACE OF BIRTH : Lansing, Michigan, USA
SPOUSE: Nancy Hughes
* In 1968 John Hughes graduated from Glenbrook North High School, Northbrook, Illinois.

* In the 1970's John Hughes began working as a writer for National Lampoon's Magazine.

* In the early 1980's John Hughes became well known around Hollywood as a talented screenwriter for such films as "National Lampoon's Class Reunion" (1982), "Mr. Mom" (1983), "National Lampoon's Vacation" (1983) & "Savage Islands" (1983).

* John Hughes has developed a reputation for making brief appearances in some of his films. In "National Lampoon's Class Reunion", John makes an un-credited appearance dressed as a girl with a paper bag over his head.

* In 1984 John Hughes was given the opportunity to direct his first film. That film was "Sixteen Candles". It introduced Molly Ringwald and Anthony Michael Hall to the world and changed the face of teen movies forever.

* In 1985 John Hughes followed up his "Sixteen Candles" success with another teen classic "The Breakfast Club". Molly Ringwald and Anthony Michael Hall were back but this time they brought along some friends, Emilio Estevez, Judd Nelson and Ally Sheedy. "The Breakfast Club" was big box office and the five actors it unleashed now had their own label "The Brat Pack".

* In "The Breakfast Club" John Hughes makes another un-credited appearance. This time as Anthony Michael Hall's dad.

* John Hughes had discovered a winning formula so more teen movies followed. He directed the comedy fantasy "Weird Science" (1985) starring Anthony Michael Hall and wrote and produced the box office smash "Pretty In Pink" (1986). After "Pretty In Pink" Molly Ringwald was more than just a teen star she had become a superstar and her face was plastered on the cover of "Time" magazine.

* Next for John Hughes was "Ferris Bueller's Day Off", originally intended to be a starring role for Anthony Michael Hall but when turned down by Hall, Hughes quickly called on "War Games" star Matthew Broderick to take over the lead role. "Ferris Bueller's Day Off" was a box office smash and became one of the most popular teen movies of the 1980's bringing in over $70 million at the US box office. This was John Hughes' most financially successful film as a director.

* If you look fast during "Ferris Bueller's Day Off" you may spot John Hughes again in another un-credited cameo. This time he plays a guy running between cabs.

* After "Ferris Bueller's Day Off" John Hughes wanted a change of scenery so he turned his attention to more adult comedies such as the hilarious Steve Martin/John Candy classic "Planes, Trains & Automobiles" (1987) and the moderately successful Kevin Bacon flick "She's Having A Baby" (1988).

* In the late 80's and early 90's, John Hughes took on another change of pace turning to family orientated pictures such as "Uncle Buck" (1989), which reteamed him with John Candy and the kid's comedy "Curly Sue" (1991), starring James Belushi. "Curly Sue" would mark the last film that Hughes would direct.

* During the 90's John Hughes put directing aside but continued to write and produce family comedies such as the "Home Alone" trilogy, "Dennis The Menace", "Flubber, "101 Dalmatians" and four installments of "Beethoven".

* In the new millennium John Hughes continues to write and produce films, his most recent assignment being "The Chambermaid", a modern-day re-telling of the Cinderella story set in Chicago and starring latin beauty Jennifer Lopez.
