Director John Millius of "Conan" fame goes to the beach for this sand and sun teen classic, "Big Wednesday", the "Big Daddy" of all surf flicks. "Big Wednesday", also known as "Summer of Innocence", covers a 12-year period (From the 60's to the 70's) in the lives of 3 surfing buddies Katt, Busey & Vincent, as they party, ride the waves & live it up in sunny California. The movie features some of the best surfing sequences ever put on film. Also of note is the appearance of William Katt's mother Barbara Hale, who also plays Katt's mother onscreen. With 4 of the hottest young stars of the 1970's and some breathtaking photography, "Big Wednesday" is sure to please all die-hard surf fans.

"Big Wednesday" NEWS - April 2003:

In the coastal town of Newcastle Australia the 1978 cult surf movie "Big Wednesday" was scheduled to be shown on the big screen at Newcastle Beach at 6:15pm on Friday 4th April 2003. The film was to be presented by Energy Australia Surfest and to be proceeded by a highlight package of some of Newcastle's greatest surfers from 5:30pm. The 2 newspaper advertisements for the event are shown below & right.

Entry to this special event was by gold coin donation with all proceeds going to the Hunter's Rescue Helicopter Service. Unfortunately, the night of the event was disrupted by bad weather which caused the historic screening to become a wash-out. This was a total disappointment for all the surf fans that were looking forward to this event with anxious anticipation.
