"Tarzan's Three Challenges" stars legendary stuntman Jock Mahoney, the man who is famous for going from Tarzan villain (Tarzan The Magnificent) to Tarzan (Tarzan Goes To India & Tarzan's Three Challenges) & then back to Tarzan villain once again (Tarzan's Deadly Silence). This excellent Tarzan adventure flick is Tarzan at its best, featuring well-staged action sequences, beautiful scenery & a strong supporting cast that includes the magnificent Woody Strode in possibly his most memorable role.

When the spiritual leader of Thailand dies his evil brother Khan tries to prevent his brother's heir from assuming leadership. Tarzan is summoned to come to Thailand to protect the heir to the throne (a small innocent child) from Khan. When Tarzan arrives he must face three deadly challenges, the final one being a spectacular fight to the death with the dangerous & powerful Khan. The climactic fight is edge of your seat excitement as the two men clash with swords on a net stretched over huge cauldrons of boiling oil.
One thing noticeable in this Tarzan adventure is that there is no Cheetah. Instead we have a baby elephant called Hungry that is used as comic relief throughout the film.
Unfortunately during the making of "Tarzan's Three Challenges" Jock Mahoney got very ill, contracting a serve fever which eventually turned into pneumonia. Luckily, Jock survived but lost a lot of weight before completion of the film. His weight loss does show in some scenes particularly in the final confrontation with Woody Strode.

Photographed on location in picturesque Thailand, "Tarzan's Three Challenges" features some breathtaking cinematography. Who can forget the majestic temples, the bungee-jump fight over the river, the grand parade of elephants & the hundreds of young girls performing the "Dance of Candles". "Tarzan's Three Challenges" is well paced, visually stunning & action-packed. It would have to go down with Gordon Scott's "Tarzan's Greatest Adventure" as one of the best Tarzan films ever made.
