COYOTE UGLY at HOLLYWOOD TEEN MOVIES

A teen film ? Well the main character, Violet Sanford isn't exactly a teen but this is a film that will play well with teen audiences everywhere. A hit soundtrack, an incredibly good looking cast & spectacular bar-top dance sequences is what makes "Coyote Ugly" one of the most entertaining films of 2000. The film is best described as being a combination of the two 80's smash hits "Cocktail" & "Flashdance".

Violet Sanford (Piper Perabo) a woman in her early 20's, leaves her home & her father (John Goodman) & heads to the big apple, New York City, with dreams of becoming an aspiring songwriter. She finds it difficult to get work in her chosen field but is successful in securing a temporary job at a hot bar called "Coyote Ugly". Her job requires her to serve drinks & sometimes dance on top of the bar. Conflict develops when her father discovers the type of work she is doing. Violet befriends Kevin (played by Bootmen's Adam Garcia) & a romance develops as the film goes on.

All the cast members do a great job with the material that has been presented to them. Piper Perabo's performance in the lead role is charming & credible. Maria Bello is a standout, as Lil, the hard as nails manager of the bar with a heart of gold. John Goodman is excellent in his supporting role as Violet's father. He is able to poke fun at himself & his bad eating habits, an ongoing joke throughout the film.

Australian actor Adam Garcia's raunchy moves on the bar-top are a highlight & have earned him notice in Hollywood circles as an outstanding new talent. A bonus at the end of the movie is the cameo role of singer, Le Ann Rimes singing the smash hit theme song "Can't Fight The Moonlight".

Producer Jerry Bruckheimer has done it again, style over substance, but who can complain when it is this entertaining. Although the premise of this film may not be ground breaking, it has nevertheless proved to be a great crowd pleaser. "Coyote Ugly" is a feel-good film that can be enjoyed by both men & women. It will have you leave the cinema with a smile on your face.
