1970's "Saturday Night Live" star Bill Murray got his big break when he was given the starring role in "Meatballs", the original summer camp movie. This low budget teen comedy was made for a measly $1.6 million but went on to gross over $43 million at the US box office. "Meatballs" made Bill Murray a household name and established him as an A-list comedian. Murray plays Tripper Harrison, a wacky summer camp counsellor for mischievous kids. Murray uses his unique brand of offbeat comedy to raise the self-esteem of the more sensitive campers while at the same time trying to tame the unruly misfits. Some of the jokes are hit and miss but Murray's presence keeps the film entertaining throughout. "Meatballs" was successful enough to spawn three sequels all starring different actors, but this, the original is considered by most to be the best in the series.
