FACT FILE:

* Travolta came from an acting family. He was the youngest of six siblings. His parents are Salvatore & Helen Travolta.

* John first gained recognition in 1975 when he starred as Vinnie Barbarino on the successful TV series "Welcome Back, Kotter".

* In 1976 he starred in the TV movie "The Boy in the Plastic Bubble". He fell in love with co-star Diana Hyland, 18 years his senior. In 1977 she died of cancer in his arms.

* In 1976 John was listed as 1 of 12 "Promising New Actors " in John Willis' Screen World.

* In 1977, he hit the big-screen as Tony Manero in the disco blockbuster "Saturday Night Fever" for which he was nominated for an Oscar. He followed his "Fever" success with the vibrant 1978 musical "Grease". He starred as DannyZucko, opposite Australian singer/actress Olivia Newton-John.

* Travolta turned down the lead roles in both "American Gigolo" (1980) & "An Officer and a Gentleman" (1982). Both films were smash hits for actor Richard Gere.

* In the 80's John made a number of hit & miss films: Urban Cowboy (1980), Blow Out (1981) Staying Alive (1983), Two of A Kind (1983), Perfect (1985) & Look Who's Talking (1989).

* John met his wife to be Kelly Preston in 1989 while both were filming "The Experts". They married in 1991 & had a son Jett in 1992.

* In 1994 John's career was revitalised with Tarantino's "Pulp Fiction", for which he recieved an Academy Award nomination.

* In 1997 John ranked 21 in Empire magazine's "The Top 100 Movie Stars of All Time".
* John is a pilot. He owns 3 Gulfstream jets, a Learjet & also a Boeing 707.
* In April 2000 John's second child was born, daughter Ella Bleu.
* In 2001 John did yoga & boxing to trim down for his role in the action thriller "Swordfish".
* In 2003 John will be reunited with his Pulp Fiction co-star Samuel L. Jackson for the drama thriller "Basic".
