CINEMA SYNOPSIS:
The Universal horror films of the ‘30s and ‘40s gave us some of the greatest movie monsters of all time - Dracula, The Wolf Man, Frankenstein’s creature and The Mummy. Director, Stephen Sommers has already resurrected The Mummy in two box office blockbusters; now, in a single movie, he injects new blood into those other three gothic icons.
Van Helsing stars Hugh Jackman as the title character, the vampire hunter introduced in Bram Stoker’s classic, Dracula. At the centre of this 19th century horror adventure is the legendary setting of Transylvania where Van Helsing, under the orders of a secret society, travels to destroy the powerful and seductive Count Dracula (Richard Roxburgh).

Joining him is Anna Velarious (Kate Beckinsale) who has her own reasons for wanting Dracula’s destruction - part of which involves her brother, Velkan (Will Kemp), who carries the curse of the Wolf Man - the creature into which he transforms during each full moon. Award-winning actor, Shuler Hensley plays Frankenstein’s monster, the other tragic figure inhabiting this place of night and shadows.

The Count is aided in his desire to turn the world into one of darkness and fear by his bloodthirsty brides and by his treacherous assistant, Igor (Kevin J O’Connor). Joining Jackman and Roxburgh to give the movie a strong Australian presence is David Wenham as Carl, a friar whose mission is to ensure Van Helsing’s safe return from the nightmarish landscape - now re-imagined through Sommers’ fantastical vision.
