"Gidget", starring Sandra Dee in the title role, is the original smash hit movie that led to several sequels, including "Gidget Goes Hawaiian" & "Gidget Goes To Rome". It also inspired two different television series, the most famous being "Gidget" starring academy award winning actress Sally Field. This romantic teen-comedy centres around 16 year old Californian beach girl Gidget & her romantic encounters with 2 surfer boys ( James Darren & Cliff Robertson ) during the hot summer of 1959. Robertson plays the beach bum while Darren stars as Moondoggie, for the first time, the character that made him the pinup boy for teenage girls around the world. He was so popular in the role he went on to star in subsequent Gidget sequels. The role of Gidget lifted Sandra Dee to superstar status & she went on to star in other major Hollywood pictures such as "A Summer Place" with Troy Donahue & "The Wild & The Innocent" with American legend Audie Murphy. The original "Gidget" is a light & breezy slice of teen entertainment. It will be remembered as a fun & good-natured film that helped to made household names of actors Sandra Dee, James Darren & Cliff Robertson.
