Released by American International Pictures and starring former Tarzan, Gordon Scott, "Samson And The 7 Miracles Of The World" is one of the most unique peplums to come out of the 1960's. Strangely enough, the story is set in 13th Century China and is completely unrelated to the biblical strongman. "Samson And The 7 Miracles Of The World" is more appropriately known in some parts of the world as "Goliath and the Golden City" or "Maciste at the Court of the Great Khan". For Gordon Scott fans of the 1960's the title was not important, the film could have been called "Tarzan Goes To China" and it wouldn't have mattered, Scott fans would have still turned up in droves.

Scott's introduction to the movie is memorable. He stumbles into the picture like he's just walked off a Tarzan set and into this one.  Before he speaks one word of dialogue we see Scott lift a tree out of the ground, roots and all, (reminiscent of Steve Reeves' "Hercules") with a gang of henchman clinging to the branches. After belting them up, he goes on to rescue a peasant by defeating a tiger with his bare hands. We immediately know that in this film actions are going to speak louder than words. For peplum fans it's the strongman heroics that count and this film delivers the goods. The film is well paced and the action set pieces flow one after the other. In a bar we see Scott take on 10 men with a giant piece of timber and in one of the film's big moments we see Scott rescue a group of peasants from being butchered by a chariot with blades. Scott uses his superhuman strength to bring the chariot and the 8 horses to a halt. To top it all off, in the film's finale, Scott uses his brute strength to create the world's first man-made earthquake.

"Samson And The 7 Miracles Of The World" has all the usual action and excitement we come to expect in a good peplum and more. Great locations, amazing feats of strength, battles and torture, its all here, we even see a woman tied up and whipped, in campy fashion of course. Bad dubbing aside, "Samson And The 7 Miracles Of The World" is exciting muscleman entertainment that has to be seen to be believed.
